The Pine House, established in 1757, is one of the oldest continuouslyoccupiedhouse sites in western South Carolina. Built initially by RIchard Pace, President George Washington visited during his tour of the south in 1791. The housewas owned by several prominent planters in the antebellum period. Benjamin W. Bettis purchasedthe home in 1858. It burned in 1866 and was rebuilt in 1868 - as it stands today. The stunning Greek Revival home has been in one of two families for more than a centuryand a half. Featuring wide, central halls up and downstairs, the house is a "four over four" layout typical of the time period. It has heart pine floors and original plaster/lathe walls.
